Pursuit of Value

Last Saturday, May 1st 2021, I took a big step. After working for over 20 years for large multinationals, I have started a new adventure, away from corporate safety and glamour.

Has mid-life hit me and should I rather have bought a motorcycle? No, I am making a deliberate choice. A hard one I might add, with new dilemma’s like pension, cutting household costs and trying to open doors without the power of a corporate business card.

What I want to learn is the mentality, speed and agility of start-ups and scale-ups. The increasing global power of platforms, social networks and eco-systems that collaborate more around purpose driven business models are in my view going to disrupt the traditional financially driven corporates. And once it moves, it will move very fast. I have felt these struggles within multinationals and have lived and managed a couple of major digital transformations working for them.

“I would like to learn, feel, live and experience the world of purpose driven eco-systems. The best way to do that, is to become part of them.”

So, maybe this adventure will make me a desirable asset for these global power houses some day in the future, or this journey might bring me into a new melting pot of global impact or it will just be a great learning experience. Anyhow, my drive and believes are firm, I want to explore and ultimately help create a new form of conducting business. A business in which companies are challenged to accelerate closer towards the essence of their proposition, rather than being diluted from it while brushing up their results to serve the short horizon objective of investor returns. A model that adheres initiatives that contribute to a common objective rather than a model that stimulates isolation and competition to serve the company balance sheet.

I am very fortunate to have met the founders of Royalis Investments. A new type ‘investor' company who is missioned to add ‘Patience Capital' into the mix and help companies to accelerate in line with their original purpose rather than having short return on investment focus. These type of initiatives are signs that things are moving today.
Another example is Harley Davidson who engages its community to design new bikes, and once the global ‘likes' hits the threshold, they will take it in production.
Since great examples and great ambition alone do not pay the bill, this is my plan.

“I believe in collaborations that help eachother to accelerate in line with the essence of their proposition and have an adhesive effect to others to add value to the common purpose”

In my adventure I seek to help scale-ups to maximize the value of their smart building and smart city solutions for their customers, partners and eco-system. I will share more details on my progress in June.

Further I would like to continue to support governments and organizations with their Smart Building and Smart City programs. Over the past 10 years I have been working in both technology and consulting companies and developed propositions and businesses for smart environments. My key learning is in order to reach value with digital, requires a different approach, both on project as well as on vendor level. Therefore it is my ambition to make a strong engagement in scale-ups and help them to help boost their propositions for those buildings and cities. On the other hand, I would like to keep helping organizations and governments to contract the right technologies with the right collaboration model to unlock maximum value.

I’ll keep you posted on my journey! Did this blog inspire you to react on purpose driven business models, please feel free to leave a note and/or start a discussion.
